David is a retired GP from Monymusk in Aberdeenshire and he creates vibrant watercolours featuring Scottish landscapes.
Initially a ‘traditional’ watercolourist whose inspiration has been the Scottish landscape where the rapidly changing light and weather encourages a technique to ‘quickly get things down on paper’. These outdoor ‘sketches’ become the basis for further work in the studio where I try to retain the original speed of execution. My painting has developed with walks through France, Italy and Spain where the intensity of colour imposed a change from ‘just’ watercolour to the use of mixed media. Much of what was learned abroad is now relevant when painting the Scottish landscape.
