Ian’s journey as an artist began back in the 1960s where the local shopkeeper seemed convinced his regular visits to buy pencils were a kind of obsession. As the focus eventually moved to university and then a steady sensible job, art was put on the back burner.
After graduating with a masters degree in geological sciences at Leeds University his love of geology and its influence on the
natural environment would take some 20 years to exhibit itself in a new resurgent expression in painting
Ian has been working as a full time artist for over 11 years expressing his profound love of the sea and coast in oil, but in recent years diverging into sculpture, mixed media and music.
Recent years have seen Ian working with a number of charities in the therapeutic use of painting and creative workshops in building confidence and developing life skills for vulnerable children and adults.
He has exhibited his recognisably textured, often energetic work across the UK and Europe in featured and group exhibitions.
